What is Waterlase Dentistry? | KFA Dental - Long Island, NY

Last updated 1 day 13 hours ago

Finally, restorative dentists have discovered a way to offer a completely painless cavity treatment. This treatment is known as Waterlase dentistry and uses highly advanced dental technology to provide quick, pain-free, and silent care.

The Waterlase technology is gentler and less invasive than previous cavity treatments, so talk to your family dentist about Waterlase today.

    How Does Waterlase Work?

During traditional cavity treatment, the dentist often has to numb the area with a Novocain shot before drilling into the tooth enamel. The dentist drills to remove all areas of decay so that bacteria are no longer able to destroy the tooth’s enamel. The numbing shot and high-pitched drill both cause many patients to fear cavity treatments. When patients are afraid of cavity treatments, they are less likely to address a cavity before the bacteria spreads to the tooth root.

Waterlase makes it easier to visit the dentist for cavity treatment because no shots or drills are necessary. Waterlase dentistry uses highly energized water and atomized air spray to precisely cut through hard tooth enamel, removing decay and bacteria in just a few minutes. Once the decayed areas have been removed, the dentist can seal the space with filling material.

    Why is Waterlase Painless?

During Waterlase treatment, no heat, pressure, or vibration is used to break away the tooth enamel, so you won’t feel a thing. The water penetrates your enamel with laser wavelengths, cutting away unwanted areas of the tooth. Waterlase is also used in gum reshaping procedures that are often necessary when a patient has developed severe gum disease. Waterlase technology is gentle enough to effectively and painlessly remove hard and soft oral tissues, making it ideal for patients with dental anxiety.

How Does the Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System Work? | KFA Dental - Long Island, NY

    Last updated 6 days ago

Professional tooth whitening is now faster and less invasive than ever thanks to the Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System. A single treatment only takes about an hour and can leave you with the bright, white smile you’ve always desired. If you’re hiding your stained smile from the world, talk to your cosmetic dentist about the Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System.

Components of the Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System

The Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System is a revolutionary treatment that uses a specially-formulated bleaching agent and an ultraviolet light to leave teeth up to ten shades whiter. The key ingredient in the Zoom! whitening system is hydrogen peroxide. Tooth enamel, while incredibly strong, is highly porous. This is what leads to tooth staining, but it is also what helps make Zoom! so effective. The hydrogen peroxide in the specially-formulated bleaching gel penetrates deep into the tooth enamel, so that it can dramatically whiten teeth.

Treatment with the Zoom! 2 Teeth Whitening System

Your cosmetic dentist will begin the Zoom! treatment by placing lip and gum protectors on and around your mouth. Next, he or she will apply the Zoom! whitening gel to the surface of your teeth. Your dentist will then position the Zoom! ultraviolet light over your teeth to activate the bleaching agent within the gel. Throughout the procedure, your dentist will return every 15 minutes to apply a new layer of the Zoom! whitening gel. After about 60 minutes, your teeth will be between six and ten shades whiter.

Good Candidates for the Zoom! 2 Whitening System

Zoom! was developed to treat anyone who is dissatisfied with the color of his or her teeth. People who smoke and those who consume coffee, soda, red wine, or tea regularly are often the most in need of a professional teeth whitening treatment. However, any measure of teeth stains can be embarrassing, so consider Zoom! for your smile today.

To schedule your Zoom! treatment, contact the office of Kahn, Ferrari, and Aldieri, DDS. We understand how important it is to have a bright, beautiful smile, so call us at (888) 829-9575 today.

Understanding Plaque and Tartar | KFA Dental - New York, NY

    Last updated 9 days ago

Each time you eat, the bacteria in your mouth use the sugars from your food to form plaque. If plaque isn’t removed from your teeth and gums each day, tartar will form. Your family dentist can provide specific instructions and care to keep plaque from causing problems. Continue reading to learn more about the formation of plaque and tartar.

    What is Plaque?

Plaque is a glue-like film that forms on the teeth due to the presence of sugars and starch. The bacteria that are naturally present in your mouth react to the food that you eat and create acids which break down tooth enamel. Plaque is formed by these bacteria and the acids that they secrete. You may not always be able to feel plaque, but should brush and floss each day to keep it from accumulating. Plaque typically builds up under and around the base of the gums, making it hard to detect and remove.

    What is Tartar?

If plaque isn’t removed every day, it can harden and become tartar. When tartar develops, it attracts more plaque and provides greater surface area for plaque to accumulate, increasing the risk of cavity and gum disease formation. Tartar absorbs stains caused by food, smoking, and drinking colored beverages, making it easy to detect. Tartar typically settles at the base of and beneath the gum line. If you notice yellowing at the base of your teeth, you may have tartar buildup.

How Can You Prevent Plaque and Tartar Buildup?

To prevent buildup on your teeth, brush your teeth at least twice a day with tartar-control and fluoride toothpaste. Floss your teeth to remove plaque and tartar from between your teeth and from below your gums each night. Limit your intake of sugary and starchy foods and visit your family dentist for professional cleanings and exams at least twice a year.

If you need a family dentist in the Long Island area, contact Kahn, Ferrari, and Aldieri, DDS. We provide a variety of preventative and general dentistry services, including periodontal therapy, cavity removal, cleanings, and X-rays. Call (888) 829-9575 to schedule an appointment.
